Picture this. You drop your kid at the airport, wave him off, and drive home thinking he’s on his way back across the Atlantic. Then you find out he never got on the plane.
That’s exactly the nightmare Antwon Hoard walked into. Elijah Hoard is missing after failing to board a flight to France, and for a few gut-wrenching days, his family had no idea where their 23-year-old had gone. He was dropped off at O’Hare on Friday, 27 February.

As per the ABC 7 report, Elijah had flown over from France to spend some time with his dad, Antwon, in Chicago. Ten days of catching up. Seemed lovely. There’s even a photo of the two of them together, and get this, that snap turned out to be the very last time anyone saw him before he strolled off towards his gate.
WLS-TV broke the story, reporting that Elijah went missing straight after that airport drop-off, with the family absolutely certain he never boarded. Chicago police weren’t messing about either. They flagged him as officially missing and got stuck in the airport’s mountain of surveillance cameras.
Now, poor Antwon was completely stumped by the whole thing. Listen to this: “To my knowledge, he was going to just register his ticket and get on the flight but for whatever reason, he never took the flight. His bags weren’t registered, and he never checked in, so what we’re thinking is he could possibly be floating around the airport or something, but again, that’s the last we’ve seen of him,” Antwon Hoard said.
“Floating around the airport.” Chilling, isn’t it? A grown lad just drifting somewhere inside one of the maddest, busiest airports going.

The Mood Swing Nobody Saw Coming
Everything was grand for most of the trip. Then, near the end, something flipped like a switch. The easy-going Elijah went quiet, tense, and dead set against one thing: going home.
His dad clocked it. “Everything seemed pretty normal the first eight days, but the last two days his whole mood had swung, and he was really adamant about not going back home, and he didn’t want to go home,” Antwon explained.
The magazine People added a worrying layer to it all, reporting that police believed Elijah “may be in need of medical attention”. Antwon confirmed his boy lived with mental illness and just didn’t fancy heading back to France.
His phone had been switched off since Friday night. And he was skint, carrying barely enough cash to survive a few days on his own. Not exactly ideal when you’ve disappeared into thin air.
Still, credit to the man, Antwon kept his cool. “Obviously, when you have a missing child, it’s all unsettling,” Antwon said, “but I’m not the type of guy that’s going to be nervous or overreact until we have more information.”
Spot This Man
The cops rolled out a proper description so the public knew who they were hunting for. And Elijah? He’s not exactly easy to miss. We’re talking a big unit here, roughly 6 feet 3 inches and about 220 lbs, with brown eyes and black hair.
On the day he vanished, he was kitted out in a brown hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and cream-colored shoes.
AOL jumped on the appeal too, spreading the detectives’ shout-out for anyone, literally anyone, with a shred of info to pick up the phone. The Chicago Police Department bulletin went whizzing round the internet, with the family more or less begging strangers to keep an eye out near the airport.

His Sister Wasn’t Sugar-Coating It
While Dad played it cool, Elijah’s sister Anaia Hoard laid the fear right out on the table. Fox 32 Chicago reports that Anaia said that her brother has schizophrenia and simply cannot go without his medication. And every hour ticking by was another hour off his meds.
“If he doesn’t take his medication, I fear he may get too low, and that might be a scary place for him to be. We’re trying to stay calm and levelheaded. We are waiting to hear from police before jumping to any conclusions,” Anaia said.
You can practically feel the knot in her stomach through those words. The whole family were basically white-knuckling it, hoping for the best while dreading the worst.
The CCTV Moment That Solved It
The cameras revealed the truth. Fox 32 served up the golden detail that tied the bow on the whole mystery. Turns out Elijah had actually cleared security and was parked at his departure gate.
But then, the footage caught him getting up, walking clean out of Terminal 5, and wandering off to a totally different terminal.
Bingo. That was the missing puzzle piece. He hadn’t just bolted out of the airport at first. He’d just… wandered deeper in, drifting off the radar and away from where anyone thought to look.
